Sat Dec 30 17:31:21 2006 sm If no one could handle things involving death, there would be no crime scene investigators, no morticians, no hospice workers, etc. Someone is not "out of their mind" for being interested in something that you are not interested in. I am interested in all things medical - from birth to death. Long before I had children I was interested in SEEING a childbirth. I have always been interested in seeing surgeries. I love to watch Dr. G, Medical Examiner. I have participated in the Court TV forums for a long time and everything surrounding crime scenes/murders, etc. is interesting to me, and I am far from alone. When there was a discussion at Court TV about adipocere, I was fascinated. I found out everything I could about it. I am interested in how the time of death is determined by core body temperature, stomach contents, rigor mortis, livor mortis, etc. It is interesting to me. You are probably interested in other things - that's okay. We are different.

Sat Dec 30 13:09:29 2006 Kersten Did any of you see the footage of his hanging? I didn't see his actual hanging of course, and I didn't see or search for footage of his body, but I was shocked as I watched on my home page the video they have accessible of the hanging. It had no sound (not like it would matter as I don't speak Arabic), but they showed the process of his hanging up to the point where they put the noose around his neck. My heart started beating really fast and I was going to click off right when it stopped.
I know you can search and find some pretty gruesome images on the internet as I have inadvertently done so with still pictures once in a blue moon, but I was just sort of surprised to see it on my home page provided by my ISP and brought to me by CNN. I guess our society has brought back public executions for all to see. Instead of them being held in the town square we just go online.

• Looking for a different/unique way to make a baked/roast whole chicken. sm - MichelleJ
Sat Dec 30 11:55:11 2006 MichelleJ I usually use tarragon, garlic, and a little seasoned salt and then roast the chicken in the oven.
A friend of mine some years back lived in the Middle East after the first Gulf War and said they have a different way of rosting chicken. They use butter between the skin and meat, then sprinkled it with cinnamon and..... some other spices. I can't remember what they were. Seems like maybe curry, but I wouldn't swear to it.
Does anyone know what these spices would be? Or, alternatively, does anyone else have a unique and tasty way of baking a chicken?
Thanks!

*** • looks pretty good - found this
Sat Dec 30 12:36:22 2006 found this INGREDIENTS:
1 fryer chicken, cut into pieces
1/2 cup dry sherry
6 tablespoons honey
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon curry powder
1 teaspoon garlic salt
PREPARATION:
Combine dry sherry, honey, cinnamon, curry powder and garlic salt in a bowl and mix. Place chicken in a shallow baking dish and coat evenly with marinade. Place in refrigerator and let sit for at least 1 hour.
Preheat grill. Remove Chicken from marinade and place chicken pieces on grill over medium fire and grill for about 10 to 12 minutes per side. Because of the honey in the marinade for this recipe you will need to keep a close eye on the chicken while it is grilling to be sure it doesn't burn. Remove chicken from grill when done and serve. Chicken is done when there is no longer any pink inside and the juices run clear.

*** • I cut an orange or tangerine in half, rub the skin with it, quarter it and put it ..sm - me
Sat Dec 30 12:07:27 2006 me in the cavity. You can make a compound butter by mixing softened butter, crushed garlic and any fresh herbs (I like thyme, mint and rosemary) and separate the skin from the meat and shove the compound butter in. I also put a quartered sweet onion and some celery in the cavity.
I recently made a turkey in this manner, adn it was really good.
I also cook my chicken or turkey with the breast down, and sprinkle some "seasoned salt" on the exposed skin after rubbing it with some of the compound butter.
If you are going to grill just the chicken breast, dust it heavily with a really good quality curry powder, cover with plain (unsweetened) yogurt and some organic meat tenderizer ( I use the one made with papaya), let it sit for 4-5 hours or overnight and then grill. Leftovers I serve in a pita bread with cucumber sauce.

Sat Dec 30 09:56:57 2006 sm I have never understood what the big deal is about paying $6 a month to have all those boards at my disposal and not have to worry about a bunch of trolls. It was an excellent site and there were a ton of us over there until a miscommunication/unfortunate event concerning a difference of opinion and how it was handled between there and MTS and I still say it was not the owner's fault. But I have never ever understood what is so bad about paying $6 a month? Are we that cheap? You don't think it is worth that pithy amount to keep trolls out? There were rarely deletions of heated discussions unless they really really got ugly. What's the deal - I would really like to know.

Many MTs here are ticked to the inth degree because they didn't think of this pay-for concept first. The founders of MTD started it and it's been successful ever since. If you want 100% juice - NO concentrate - and want the REAL PULSE of the MT community, go there, but do stay away from MT Stars (green newbies), Sci fi (old yackity-yack grannies who live in the dark ages) and the AOL message board (the place is dead).

I don't hang out on Sci-Med but I have been an MT for many, many years and it is my opinion that if you are looking for true professional MTs, that is where you'd want to go.

Sat Dec 30 10:11:20 2006 Montyna WE built that site. The encyclopedia of information that is MT Daily was contributed by US over years and years. And that burns my buttons.
With MT Daily's loyal community there were so many ways to go about increasing profit. There are so many wildly sucessful internet communities to use as examples.
Maybe the Morken's didn't realize how many of us felt like family and felt hurt when we realized we were more like a commodity. But when it became obvious how many of us felt that way....we pretty much were told it didn't really matter how we felt because we didn't have anywhere else to go.
And you know what? We did. We stayed together and made somewhere else to go. And for every board the bullies take down and the horrible trail of hurt all over the place, we're still together. Sort of.

• Billybob, obviously there's a lot of us....(begging msg inside) - Montyna
Sat Dec 30 09:15:11 2006 Montyna very thankful for you. It's been quite a few years now since MT Daily started charging. Before that MT Daily and MT Chat co-existed in MT Land. Maybe like Russia and the USA during the Cold War years, but still...
Since then it's been out and out guerilla warfare. Board after board after board. So many women have set something up or contributed to a community, been petted and made to feel important. And always, always, always something happens.
There's been several posts about this just being the way "women" act. That's just plain not true. This isn't how women act. There are small groups of bullies who at this point have been made to feel they are running the show. And everytime a board owner tucks her tail between her legs and slinks off (I can say that, I did it too) because someone's hurt her badly, the bullies puff up and feel more whatever-the-bejeebes thrill it is that bullies get off of on.
I don't think it's just the MT Community and I know it's not

Sat Dec 30 10:17:22 2006 (sm) wouldn't that take care of a lot of the problem? A bully who is ignored will soon tire and go elsewhere. Now, I know it's hard to do and I myself am guilty of responding to those obvious troll-type posts, but if the upstanding MTs on this board (and come on, we all know what I mean by that) could come together and make a vow to themselves and to others that they will not participate in such discussions that are so obviously meant to demean another poster, then don't you think a lot of the problems here would be solved?

*** • absolutely wrong on two counts. - billybob
Sat Dec 30 09:34:45 2006 billybob 1. I hate registration boards. I want the Word Board run this way, and I'm trying to make software that will keep out spammers and trolls without making registration necessary.
2. It would still be competing for the MT Spot "audience" even if the "product" was in a slightly different category.
|
****** • Okay. Will you please answer two questions? - Montyna
Sat Dec 30 09:53:01 2006 Montyna 1. Why do you hate registration boards?
2. There is no software in the world that can filter out bullies, and that's who's taking down board after board, not spammers or trolls. Not even you are going to be able to code a mind-reading program. It can't be done.
(And yes, I know that wasn't a question.)
One more thing, you have put lots of time and effort into The Great Dictator. You are a savvy business man, so of course you're aware of the financial gains involved in giving the market (us) what it wants. I guess you could be one of those few who have no need for more bucks.
And if that's true, that's so unfair! Do you have any idea how much time and effort I've put into the fantasies involving you in a business suit and a corner office? Do you know what effort working that around to some barefoot, unshaven, tanned, half-naked man living off coconuts in a hut on the beach is going to take?

********* • Jumping in: I think you will lose people if you go to registration. There are some sm - Ann Swer
Sat Dec 30 10:54:05 2006 Ann Swer people who are not trolls but who simply like to be anonymous. Shy? I don't know. Maybe just a privacy issue. They just don't want to be out there. You'll cut down on the size of the community. billybob pointed that out in a prior post about MTD. I don't believe it was just the money for many people.
You will cut down on the candidness of discussions, though, with registration. I'm sure we will not see some of the conversations we have seen here if names are used--albeit monikers.
I personally am fine with registration, but it MUST BE a threaded board. My personal preference.
|
************ • Can you have a board where you.... - Montyna
Sat Dec 30 11:13:01 2006 Montyna have to sign in to post, but could have the option to post anonymously?
And again, MT Spot is still there. If you have a problem or something to get off your chest, but it's one of those things you don't want the whole world to know it's you, MT Spot will still be there.
Money isn't made from registrations. Money is made from the visitors to the site. Over the years there have been so many posters who are funny, smart or just plain fascinating, that they have their own big fan bases. Even if there's only a dozen or so registered posters, there's still going to be thousands of visitors a day. For some of us, it's like reading the comics every day.

Sat Dec 30 10:33:51 2006 billybob If you feel someone's bullying violates community standards, report it as a troll post. They just get deleted until they decide to stop annoying everyone else.

|
********* • well here's what I want. - billybob
Sat Dec 30 10:05:46 2006 billybob Here are the rules of the board I want.
1. Anyone can post, except #2.
2. Posts that have characteristics of spam (such as multiple links) will be filtered and never show up. If you're accidentally blocked, you can rewrite your post and try again.
3. When you view a post, you will see "REPORT SPAM" and a "REPORT TROLL" links. If you see a post that you feel violates "community standards" you can report it.
4. If SEVERAL people who have already posted to the board report a troll post, it will automatically be replaced by "troll post deleted" and the IP will be blocked for as long as it stays on the board (around here, 12 to 24 hours). If SEVERAL people report a spam post it will simply be deleted, and maybe the filter will be tweaked to delete similar messages in the future.
5. Posters have to accept the possibility that they may have posts deleted by the community if they are felt to be out of line, and at worst they will be blocked for a day or so.
|
************ • I should add that this would work best where "offensive" posts are minimal SM - billybob
Sat Dec 30 10:47:13 2006 billybob It seems ideal on a board like the Word Board, where posts don't need to be deleted (I've never deleted a post, although I've edited about a dozen, mostly for including confidential information). It could break down when things get out of hand. I think it's as much a tool to keep trolls away in the first place than catching them after the fact.
I'm sensitive to the problems Frankie had at THFS because he made more than 10 posts an hour and the software automatically banned him. I want to be careful not to block people inadvertently.
|
************ • Won't work. - Montyna
Sat Dec 30 10:43:41 2006 Montyna You're operating under the assumption that the we're all willing to go into battle. You've seen what's been happening. You'll have a board of only trolls and troll hunters. Which obviously is fun for a few.
But the rest of us, probably vast hoards of us, just want I want to mosey in, curl up in the lounge, gossip, chat and argue.
I don't want to do battle every day. I don't want to help filter out spam or trolls. I don't want to bump around in the dark, trying to guess which are the bad guys and which are the good guys.
My 18-year-old son has been involved with a Robotek forum (yes, geek boys one and all) since he was 12. People come and go, but there is this core group that have been best friends from all over the world for over six years now. There are expectations from members, one of them involves agreeing to take your turn as a monitor. The monitors are announced, and when a post is taken down it's logged and the monitor who took it down posts why.

I think MTS will implode on itself as someone else said fairly soon - don't mean to sound all sentimental, but that day when all there was up on MTS was the Christmas tree, and I had something I had really wanted to post, which I don't do very often, and there was no where to go,I felt very sad (I know, it sounds silly) but then found you. You have my loyalty forever and I don't need to run down the other board to be loyal to you.

*** • I can't find bb's post about shutting it down either, but I wanted to say that it doesn't - sm
Sat Dec 30 09:42:13 2006 sm split the MT community - it's just another option for posting. There are lots of MT boards around, and there is certainly room for one more.
Please keep it open, bb.

*** • I totally agree with this. Christmas tree, then a very juvenile SM - i agree
Sat Dec 30 07:00:34 2006 i agree page airing a bunch of dirty laundry, now this other person has "bought" the board. OH. WELL. The old board owners shut down at a moment's notice..there were important posts there. They left all of us high and dry - I used their board to get to some other places from their links and I was without those. Did they care? No.
|
****** • It was a forum they provided for us to use for FREE. They (and BB) owe you nothing. - You seem to feel
Sat Dec 30 07:57:57 2006 You seem to feel that they owe you something. I just don't get that. I wish all the posters so vehemently airing their "hatred" of the old Spot owners would step up to the plate and open their own board, please everybody there, make it the biggest, best MT board. Do something about it, don't just whine about how You've been hurt.

*** • I remember someone posting about the worst Christmas ever and - I hope she is ok
Sat Dec 30 06:34:53 2006 I hope she is ok I went back to see if she said anything more..
|
****** • Right after she posted and several people responded is when the board was taken down. - That really bothered
Sat Dec 30 15:44:03 2006 That really bothered me that this person reached out for help and then BAM! Nothing on the board but a Christmas tree blinking. I kept wondering about that person and wondering why they shut the board down with that post on there. Maybe it was MEM who was having the worst Christmas ever....

****** • I did too. Wonder what happened to her? - nm

• Talon - I read your blog - about the self-preservation thing...sm - I do that too.
Sat Dec 30 06:24:13 2006 I do that too. I never knew why, I just know I used to always cause friction in an otherwise great relationship/friendship just to see if they'd leave. I guess I was testing them to see if they'd leave before I got in too deep. Just didn't know it.
Learn something new every day. Give Chris a hug for me.

*** • I haven't read Talon's blog but I had a friend who I always thought was "testing" me. - sm
Sat Dec 30 09:51:29 2006 sm She would all the time ask me for favors, ask me to do this or that for her, sometimes things that were really pushing the limits of what I wanted to do (like calling me when I needed to work and asking me if I could PLEASE watch her kids because she had something terribly important that had come up and I was the only one she could turn to...), and MOST of the time, once I agreed, she'd call back and say "oh, never mind..." I truly think she was testing to see if I would go out of my way to help her or tell her to f*ck off.
|
*** • Do the same thing but only realized it several yrs ago,-I've already lived most of my life - txmt
Sat Dec 30 06:31:03 2006 txmt I'm at least aware of it now, and I'm working on it.

• BB, if you decide to keep this board up, you know we'll support you ... sm - Easyrider
Sat Dec 30 02:23:40 2006 Easyrider But no matter what you decide, I want to thank you for the time and hard work you've put into this board this past week. You were the glue that held us all together, and I cannot express how much it has meant.

• I'm so confused! sm - Bubbles
Sat Dec 30 00:19:59 2006 Bubbles Is this board really closing down? I'm not quite sure what is going on. I always went to MTDaily. My subscription ran out while I was sick and I just never really got around to renewing it. Can't actually say I ever went to MTSpot so I'm completely lost when everybody is talking about whatever it is that happened over there. Got an email from one of my old MTDaily buddies who told me about this board so I checked it out. Read below that this one is going to close down. Will someone please tell me where I should be?
|
*** • Bubbles: Not sure if you are interested but if you - sm
Sat Dec 30 10:01:12 2006 sm email mtforumaddresses@yahoo.com - your name will be put on a list in case this board or MTS close down unexpectedly. It's just a safety net for those of us who want to stay in contact and have serious withdrawal symptoms!
