Okay - flame away here. What is so bad about a paid subscription site? - sm
Sat Dec 30 09:56:57 2006 I have never understood what the big deal is about paying $6 a month to have all those boards at my disposal and not have to worry about a bunch of trolls. It was an excellent site and there were a ton of us over there until a miscommunication/unfortunate event concerning a difference of opinion and how it was handled between there and MTS and I still say it was not the owner's fault. But I have never ever understood what is so bad about paying $6 a month? Are we that cheap? You don't think it is worth that pithy amount to keep trolls out? There were rarely deletions of heated discussions unless they really really got ugly. What's the deal - I would really like to know.

Sat Dec 30 16:53:09 2006 Kim I've found MTD to be an excellent site, filled with professionals, all of whom provide excellent information and insight into our industry. Many MTs here are ticked to the inth degree because they didn't think of this pay-for concept first. The founders of MTD started it and it's been successful ever since. If you want 100% juice - NO concentrate - and want the REAL PULSE of the MT community, go there, but do stay away from MT Stars (green newbies), Sci fi (old yackity-yack grannies who live in the dark ages) and the AOL message board (the place is dead).
Sat Dec 30 18:05:47 2006 sm came from many of us HERE before the board was a pay board. The content of that site did not "belong" to the Morkens. We you aware that Mary Morken had been an MT a very short time when she started that site? She admitted after many years she had never even done acute care. I don't hang out on Sci-Med but I have been an MT for many, many years and it is my opinion that if you are looking for true professional MTs, that is where you'd want to go.
Sat Dec 30 13:09:48 2006 Tricksie It's always so professional and informative there, unlike any other board around. And that explains why they've been around so long and people actually pay to go there because they're GREAT!!
Sat Dec 30 16:05:41 2006 Becky to when it went to pay, and have paid a month here and there over the years. It is a big zero. Sorry, but I don't know where you get your notion of what constitutes "professional."
Sat Dec 30 14:31:11 2006 No name they went to a pay site the site was dead and is still dead. There aren't that many posts and there aren't that many members. Who in their right mind would actually pay money to go to a discussion board? How dumb. Mavis is right on, it is a nazi site.
Sat Dec 30 16:37:52 2006 Ltd to go there since you seem to know everything that's going on there. Say what you will. MTD is a very professional site and I LOVE IT! Now go away shoo-fly!
Sat Dec 30 14:43:12 2006 Kersten From what I recall, I don't know who deletes more inconsequential stuff - MTD or MT Stars. Strange stuff, at least to me. I don't know why they care(d). Toss up. I didn't care about MTD going to pay. I knew I wouldn't pay and MT Stars deletes so much stuff. I rarely go, but I always notice there's one page of the same date. The only post I made at all in a year was one and that one they deleted. LOL! I think I posted a link of another website someone asked about.
Sat Dec 30 11:17:58 2006 Look We were not paying for her husband's Alzheimer's care, but for the mansion they were building in the woods to house all of their family members. A huge mansion. Probably over 7200 square feet, on our dime. Let her buy it herself.
Sat Dec 30 13:16:52 2006 ShameOnYou! And you'll probably get even more green with envy when I tell you our house is over 5,000 square feet, discounting our theatre that's also drop dead gorgeous!
Sat Dec 30 14:49:37 2006 you missed the point her stricken husband. It was to feather a very large, very expensive nest.
No, have never been jealous of the Morken's or their money, or the size of their home, or yours. Mine is 2400 square feet, and all mine, plus the kitties. Plenty of room, not jealous at all. (and i would not pay to feather your nest, either)
Sat Dec 30 10:11:25 2006 Ann Swer Seriously, though, why should "I" pay somebody to make money off me. I helped out extensively on the MTD word board. So they should make money for me to help their posters? (Of course, not just me, I understand that, but you get my point.)
And though I was kidding in my opening line, there is a serious vein in that.
Sat Dec 30 10:11:20 2006 Montyna WE built that site. The encyclopedia of information that is MT Daily was contributed by US over years and years. And that burns my buttons.
With MT Daily's loyal community there were so many ways to go about increasing profit. There are so many wildly sucessful internet communities to use as examples.
Maybe the Morken's didn't realize how many of us felt like family and felt hurt when we realized we were more like a commodity. But when it became obvious how many of us felt that way....we pretty much were told it didn't really matter how we felt because we didn't have anywhere else to go.
And you know what? We did. We stayed together and made somewhere else to go. And for every board the bullies take down and the horrible trail of hurt all over the place, we're still together. Sort of.
Some hero (or idiot) says "I DON'T THINK SO!" sets up a new home for us.
Sat Dec 30 14:35:33 2006 sm the tubes cause I was only 2 months into it. When I asked for my money back or at least partial they said no. I was pissed as hell and vowed to never go back to that site or recommend it to anyone.
Sat Dec 30 13:22:07 2006 Wake Up Are you a child or an adult? If the latter you should know by now that if you're looking for family you're not going to find it on the Internet. THAT you find in REAL LIFE.
Sat Dec 30 10:10:39 2006 billybob MT Daily's Main Word Board has shrunk from 1500 posts a day to about 150, which indicates that 90% of the people have left.
The truth is that it was worth that when everybody was posting there. But when 90% of the posters leave, 90% of the value leaves.
Sat Dec 30 11:02:32 2006 mavis what flew all over me (as we say in the south) is that they requested help with their difficult word list (or whatever they called it) right before they went to pay status, knowingly asking for input for free and then charging for it.
Sat Dec 30 10:10:00 2006 taw/sm do the paid subscription site, too. It's still there, isn't it? Those who choose can go there. Though, as I recall, I was able to write that off on my taxes!
Sat Dec 30 10:08:38 2006 sm taking posts that ALL of us made - that is what MADE MT Daily, all of our posts, and then CHARGING people to have access to them. Registration would have been a different thing. It would have required us to register to be there, but not CHARGE us to have access to the site that we made what it was with our posts. Now if it had been a site filled with information put there by the Morkens, their property, that would be different but what made the site was all the posts over the years from all of us, all our help, all our advice. MT Daily was just where it was housed. I don't want to pay for that. Heck if because of Hu's Alzheimer's Mary needed to create an income for herself so she could take care of him, and she just said that, I would have gladly DONATED $6 a month to visit the site to help out. But making it a subscription site was a mistake I think.
And now that MT Daily is a pay site, there is not much activity there at all. I have paid for a month here and there just to see what's going on over there and the answer is not much. It was great while it lasted but it will never be what it was.
Sat Dec 30 17:40:11 2006 sm I paid for a month or two. I think two. And went there and saw there was nothing going on, didn't keep going back and didn't keep paying. Lots of people have said over the years that they paid for a month just so they could pop in and see what it's like. They found the same thing I did - that it's nothing like it used to be. It's dead.
How crazy are YOU to criticize someone for a post they made that does not concern you in any way?
